LaGrange, GA - Mrs. Lois N. Burns, 96, passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014, at Poplar Creek.
Mrs. Burns was born November 18, 1917 in Zirkle, Georgia, the daughter of the late Olive Bryant Newham and Willie E. Newham. She was preceded in death by her husband, Malcom V. Burns and a brother, Harry E. Newham. She was a charter member of Rothwell Baptist Church, in Pooler, Georgia where she served in leadership roles for 33 years. She lived in Pooler for 36 years and LaGrange for 31 years. She was a member of Western Heights Baptist Church and had also attended Broad Street Church of Christ for several years. She was employed by the Chatham County Board of Education at Pooler School until her retirement in 1976. She taught at Pooler School for 27 years and other Georgia Counties for 9 years.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Danny Toth, of LaGrange; son and daughter-in-law, Malcolm V. Burns Jr. and Nordelia of Bishop, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Pooler, Georgia. Interment will follow in the Newton Cemetery, in Pooler, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 until 1:00 on Thursday, prior to the funeral services.
