Springfield - Louis Stephen Mobley, 69, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014, at Candler Hospital after a long illness.
Stephen was born in Savannah, Georgia, and formerly was employed as the director of MedStar Emergency Medical Services. More recently, Stephen served on the Effingham Hospital Authority. He served for many years on the following: EMS Directors Association of Georgia, Southeast Georgia EMS Council, the State of Georgia Emergency Medical Council, the Georgia Association of EMS and the Chatham County EMS Advisory Council. He was named Georgia EMS Director in 1991 and received the Governor's Public Safety Award for EMS in 2000. He served on the Springfield City Council for 15 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Christopher "Frog" and Nelle Belle "Nell" Knight Mobley.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Evonne Lamkin Mobley; daughter, Kara Mobley; brothers John Mobley and Kevin Mobley; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, at Springfield United Methodist Church, with a memorial service to follow.
