Louis Vincent Shurr

Louis Vincent Shurr, resident of Savannah, passed away at home on Sunday, August 21, 2016 under the care of hospice. Vincent was a native of Austin, TX. He was a graduate of the University of Texas, where he played basketball and was a proud member of the Silver Spurs service organization. After graduating college, he moved to Monroe, LA and began his working journey in the hardwood sawmill business. After leaving Monroe, his business took him and his family first to Memphis, TN and then to Little Rock, AR where he worked for the last 20 years of his productive career.

Vincent was a lover of life, a devoted family man and enjoyed making other people happy with his exceptional woodworking talents and cork board creations. He loved music and dance, especially the big band music and swing dance styles from his younger days. He was an avid golfer from his early teens and most recently a member of the Southbridge Golf Club in Savannah. For years, he enjoyed extensive travel with wife, Eleanor, and friends and family, which often included playing beautiful golf courses in exciting places. He especially enjoyed his once a month Guys Night Out group of Southbridge friends and Potluck Dinner group of loyal friends. Vincent was a much loved man.

Vincent was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Flavia Prudhomme Shurr; two brothers, Andrew Shurr and David Shurr; his first wife of 46 years, Joyce Waddell Shurr; and most recently his sister-in-law, Sandra Shurr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 9 years, Eleanor Roan Shurr; two sons, Steve (Carol) Shurr, of Ft. Smith, AR and Alan Shurr, of Rowayton, CT; former daughter-in-law- Kathy Barton Shurr, of AR; his beloved grandchildren, Allison (Jason) Cowdin, of Austin, TX, Leah (Andy) Kaelin, of Ft. Smith, AR, Patrick Shurr and Christopher Shurr, of Rowayton, CT; also three beautiful great-grandchildren, Naila, Jackson, and Eli; stepson, Scott (Kris) Roan, of Springfield, MO; son-in-love, Scott (Teresa) Bradley, of Folkston, GA; sister, Mary Louise Shell, of Macon, GA; brother Michael Shurr, of Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law, Joy Shurr, of Baton Rouge, LA.
