Obituary

Lowell Hobart Dasher, 86, passed away at his home on November 29, 2017. For 35 years, he taught history and civics, first at Marlow Consolidated High School and then at Effingham County High School. He was a graduate of Georgia Teachers College (now Georgia Southern University) and George Peabody College for Teachers (now part of Vanderbilt University). He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, later becoming a member and deacon at Powers Baptist Church, where he also previously served as Sunday School director, Vacation Bible School director, and senior adult coordinator.
Lowell was a member and past president of the Effingham Retired Educators Association and a member of the Georgia Association of Educators. He served as a board member for the First District Regional Educational Service Agency and for the Effingham County Library Board. He was a longtime member of the Marlow chapter of the Georgia Farm Bureau. He served on the Board of Directors for Planters Telephone Cooperative.
Lowell was an avid gardener who loved sharing his vegetables and flowers with others.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle and Maude Conaway Dasher; by his sisters, Sarah Hammaker and Leona Helmey; and by his brothers, James Dasher and Clayton Dasher.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Naomi Elizabeth Driggers Dasher, and by his children Anthony Dasher (Cathy), Elaine Dasher (John Palmer), and Holly Dasher. He is survived by two grandchildren, Rebecca Palmer and Jack Palmer. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Emma Lee Dasher and Sadie Driggers, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Hospice Savannah for their compassionate care.

Visitation will be Monday, December 4, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 5, at 3 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Mr. Dasher will lie in state from 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
