Lucille (Lou) Macon

Pooler - Mrs. Lucille (Lou) Brockington Macon, 91, passed away on June 9, 2014 at Savannah Cottage after an extended illness and under the care of Hospice Savannah. She was born on October 14, 1922 to Walter R. and Ethelyn Freeman Brockington in Willamsburg County, South Carolina. On March 22, 1941, she married Israel Vann Macon who preceded her in death in 1986. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Savannah, Georgia and relocated to Pooler in the early 1950s where she continued to live the remainder of her life.

She and her husband were active members of the Cherokee Campers and enjoyed many years of camping with friends. Later, she enjoyed traveling with Excursions Unlimited and visited Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, the Virgin Islands, and many locations throughout the United States. Mrs. Macon was a member of the Pooler First Baptist Church for over fifty years and was a member of the Win One Sunday School Class.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her four brothers: Gene Brockington, Wendell (Penny) Brockington, Bert Brockington, and Walter (Brock) Brockington. She is survived by her niece and nephew Martha and Carl Hall of Vidalia and Pooler, Georgia; two sisters-in-law, Doris Brockington of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Ariel Cole Brockington of Hemingway, South Carolina. She is also survived by other nieces and nephews including Anne Smith of Pooler, Shelba Williams of Logan, Alabama, Mike Brockington of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Linda Achary of Metaire, Louisiana in addition to her special friend Lorene Troup and numerous cousins and friends.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Hospice Savannah, Savannah Cottage, Dr. John Rathbun, Dr. Michael Mobley and Dr. Gif Lorenz for the excellent care they provided. Also, a heartfelt thank you to Shirley King for the love and devoted care she gave Aunt Lou.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 10th at Strickland Funeral Home in Pooler, Georgia from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. The service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 11th at Strickland Funeral Home followed by burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Savannah. Pallbearers will be deacons of the Pooler First Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Pooler First Baptist Church, Post Office Box 506, Pooler, Georgia 31322 or Hospice Savannah Foundation, 1674 Chatham Parkway, Savannah, GA 31405.
