Luree Swindell Smith Nowell

Luree Swindell Smith Nowell, 94, passed away October 31, 2026 at Willow Pond Senior Care.

Born in Chatham County and was a longtime resident of Screven County. She was a longtime member of Middle Ground Baptist Church where she served as financial secretary for 25 years. She was a member of the Silver Liners Dancing Club, the Road Runners at First Baptist Church of Sylvania, and was an avid traveler even in her later years visiting many different countries.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon A. Swindell and Lily Luree Hunter Swindell; first husband, John Richard Smith; and second husband, Herbert Nowell.

Survivors include her children, Andy Smith (Anita), LuAnn Gatch (Bobby), and Billy Smith (Beth); grandchildren, Emily Lake (Jacob), Abigail Smith (Ben), and Courtney Kelley (David); several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2026 at Middle Ground Baptist Church followed by funeral services at 2 p.m.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers remembrances may be given to Affinity Hospice, 109 S. Duval Street, Claxton, GA 30417.
