Springfield – Lynette Rahn Jones, 85, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2024 on her 67th wedding anniversary, at her home.
The Effingham County native was a member of Springfield Oaks Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Jones; and her parents, Kenneth & Lou Ellis Rahn.
"I am so thankful to have had a wonderful, loving, caring and Christian mom. She was always there for us. I have definitely been blessed. We shared many wonderful memories together; whether it was Doctor appointments or Christmas Shopping we enjoyed spending time together. She was an amazing woman who lived and amazing life. She was blessed to be adopted by Grandma and Granddaddy Rahn when she was 17 months old. She had a great life. Like all of us from time to time she had challenges, at the age of 5 she was in a horrific car accident which left her with an injured leg but she never let that stop her. She was limited due to the injury and was not able to play sports and she never learned to swim but even with these limitations she was still able to do other things. She was the water girl for the basketball team and she also learned to play the piano. Due to the nature of her injury, she was also one of the first 100 people to try penicillin. She met the love of her life, Ernest, and they were married for over 60 years. She has missed him every day. Mama was always involved with us doing Sunday School, Bible School, Brownies, Cub Scouts, Y-Club, Band and PTA. I always loved and was very proud when she was able to attend our school trips.
One of her accomplishments during her life included the first Jaws of Life in our county. With the help of Sheriff Fulcher, Deputy Randall and the County Commissioners they were able to get this approved. This was very important to her because when she was in her car accident, when she was a child, she had to be extracted with a chainsaw.
Mama and a cousin of hers wanted to name GA HWY 119 the John Adam Treutlen Highway after the first Governor of Georgia. They went and asked for assistance from Representative George Chance and he was able to get it passed by the Senate. The highway starts at Fort Stewart ands ends at the Clyo River Bridge.
One other thing that she assisted with was raising money, selling Krispy Kreme donuts, to furnish a room in the Effingham County Hospital when it was being built, for the County Council PTA."
Lynette's jobs included Text Book Committee for adopting school books for the schools, crop reporting services for 7 years, Savannah Linen Outlet for Joan Kessler (once she was done with job it was given to Angie). She also was involved in several clubs, the March of Dimes, Garden Club, Chairman of the Scrapbook Committee with Cousin Betty Waller. She won second in State one year and then first place the next year.
This is just a snippet of her story and her story will live on in our traditions, memories and in our hearts.
She is survived by her children, Edwin Jones, Angi Gaskin (Ray) and Susie Collins (Paul); grandchildren, Justin Mock (Caitlin), Jake Collins (Jackie), Cheyanne Jackson (Allen), Jesse Collins, Jaynie Gaskin, and Kate Gaskin; great-grandchildren, Cason Collins, Brennley Mock, Jenning Mock, Alken Jackson, and Echo Jackson; her sisters, Nancy Barnwell and Joann Martin (Billy); sisters-in-law, Jennifer Hadwin and Judy Rainey (Buddy); several nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.
A special thanks is given to her caregivers, Cheyanne Jackson, Loretta Scott, Darlene Bright, Hali Edwards, Michelle Goldwire, Donna Hughes, Brandi Johnson, and Carolyn Gordon.
