Marion Clair (M.C.) Jaudon, "Monk" as his friends knew him, passed away on April 4th, 2018 at the age of 95.

A native of Effingham County, Georgia, Monk was born on March 16, 1923, raised on his family farm and graduated from Effingham Academy in 1940, a time when the population of the county was less than 1,000. He enlisted in the Navy at age 19 and thereafter spent time at a naval aviation training base in Maryland then at Fort Moultrie in South Carolina.  He proudly served our nation in the Navy for six years over two enlistment periods during World War II, a portion of that time spent on the ship 'Pine Island.' Monk's two brothers also served during World War II, Warren in the Army and Charles in the Air Force. The Jaudon home proudly displayed three stars in their window showing all three sons were serving their nation.  Monk enjoyed recently being recognized in the Rincon Freedom Parade with his fellow honorees and stated "it means a lot to be a part in the parade and recognize the freedom of our country."  He was a long time employee of Union Camp until retirement due to health concerns. He made some lifelong friends while working there. He has recently been bestowed with a honorary lifetime membership in the Georgia Salzburger Society of which he was very proud.

Monk was a benefactor and  scholar with regard to "Old Ebenezer," the original settlement of the Salzburgers located on his family's land in Effingham County.  He toured archaologists, State officials, historians and interested individuals over the years, and enjoyed educating them regarding the historic area. Monk was a long time faithful member of Springfield United Methodist Church and attended as long as his health allowed. Since moving to Lakeview Manor Retirement Home he greatly enjoyed and appreciated the ministry the Phillips family provided for the residents on Sunday mornings.

Monk was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, and his family loved him dearly. Known as "Pop Pop," he was a "tractor buddy",  always ready with a joke and was responsible for Rudolph bringing many magical nights to grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the residents of Effingham County. Monk was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Margaret Neidlinger Jaudon and Charles Augustus Jaudon; his brothers Charles Jaudon and Warren Jaudon; his loving wife of 45 years Bernice Arnsdorff Jaudon and her son Jimmy Parker. He is survived by his devoted daughter Janice Jaudon Dorminey (Edd); his granddaughters Jennifer Dorminey Herzog (Scott) and Jeanine Dorminey Webster (Luke); and five great grandchildren he fondly nicknamed the "curtain climbers" because they are so active, Jana Claire (Jana) Webster , William Henry (Will) Webster, Elizabeth Margaret (Bess) Herzog, John Hobbs (Hobbs) Webster, and Marilyn Virginia (Mari) Herzog. He is also survived by a niece Anita Tatum, great niece Natalie Tatum, and many cousins.He is also survived by his wife's family, whom he loved dearly as his own, daughter Joyce Burns (Steve); grandchildren Sherri Royal (David) and Kelli Hesling; and great grandchildren Ryan Jaudon, Devyn Jaudon, Carlee Royal, Alex Royal and Cooper Hesling.

The family is especially grateful to Libby Kessler and the devoted staff of Lakeview Manor Retirement Community who treated him like family and to Dwan Driskill, Jennifer Nunn and Southern Care Hospice Service for their caring services through this journey.

Visitation will be Friday, April 6, 2018 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home.

A celebration of Monk's life will be held on Saturday, April  7, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Springfield United Methodist Church, 210 Cleveland Street, Springfield Georgia 31329.

Interment will follow in Springfield Cemetery Annex.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Jaudon, Joe Jaudon, Greg Jaudon, Mike Tebeau, Cooper Hesling and Skippy Hesling. Honorary pallbearers will be Hugh Outler, Mac Weaver and RD Jaudon.
