Obituary

Springfield – Mack Anthony Scott, 93, passed away July 22, 2025 at Effingham Care Center.

The Effingham County native was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline Zittrauer Scott; his parents, Louis and Ruby Porter Scott; his sisters, Elizabeth Pool, Ina Dasher, and Nellie Tomlin; brother, Louis Scott, Jr.

He graduated from Clyo School and served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years.   He attended Armstrong College, where he met his wife, Jacqueline Zittrauer.  They were married for 56 years.

Mack was employed by Jenkins Metal Craft until he went into business for himself for many years.  Living at Wilmington Island, he and his wife, Jackie, were active members of the Wilmington Island First Baptist Church.  He restored several historic homes in the Savannah Historic District.  After retirement, they moved to Effingham County, where he worked for the Board of Education as head of maintenance from 1974 to 1994.  He retired for the 2nd time.  They sold their home on the Savannah River and moved to Statesboro and became active members of the Brooklet United Methodist Church.  During this time, they began to travel in the U.S and all around the world.  He liked to tell people he had traveled in every state in the United States.

He and Jackie were leaders of the youth ministry no matter where they lived.  Mizpah Church, where he grew up became his home church again.  He and Jackie were very active members and worked with youth and young couples for many years.  There are couples and young people who still remember the influence he and Jackie had on their lives.

After the death of his wife, he lived alone for several years in their Springfield home before moving to Lakeview Senior Living.  He would tell you that Lakeview was as close to feeling at home as he could get.  The Phillips family ministry became his church where they minister every Sunday at Lakeview at 2:00 p.m.  Mack loved the Lord and often asked why God allowed him to live to be so old.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Mizpah Church followed by funeral services at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given to Mizpah Church, 122 Mizpah Road, Clyo, GA 31303.
