Obituary

Pooler-Mrs. Madge Swindell Hayes, 86, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at Savannah Square Nursing Home.
Mrs. Madge was born in Glennville to the late George Dewey Swindell and Sally Clem Caison Swindell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hoke Smith Hayes, Sr.; a sister, Montez Swindell Starcher and two brothers, Marvin Swindell and Dewitt Swindell. She was a member of Rothwell Baptist Church, enjoyed reading and sewing and had a wonderful sense of humor. She had worked at Grumman during World War II and retired from The Dobbs House Restaurant at the Savannah Airport.
Survivors include her children, Gail Hayes King (Spencer) of Atlanta, Hoke Smith Hayes, Jr. (Peggy Gratta) of Hilton Head, SC and Kenneth D. Hayes, Sr. (Diane) of Faulkville; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Swindell DeLoach Blocker of Glennville and Joann Swindell Dubberly (Robert) of Glennville and a number of nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the funeral home.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 23, 2012 in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Travis Cowart officiating.
Music will be provided by Margaret Pye and Sylvia Frost. Pallbearers will be Gerald Blocker, David Dubberly, Willie DeLoach, Randall Hayes, David Hayes and Allen Hayes. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery on Dean Forest Road in Garden City.
