Margaret Gwendolyn Collins Gould, 84, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital in Mobile, AL after a long illness. She was residing in Monroeville, AL for the past few years.A native of Savannah, GA, Margaret was born in Aline, GA in Tattnall County to Austin & Avis Collins and was raised by her aunt and uncle Joe Perry Collins & Lovie Myrtle Collins from the age of 4 after her mother, Avis passed away.
She is preceded in death by her birth parents and her life parents, her husband, George David Gould, and her young daughter, Linda Gail Gould, and sisters, Floree, Alice Collins Howell, Tina Virgil, Ellis Collins.
She is survived by her son, James Eric Gould and wife Paula of Monroeville, AL, son David Wayne Gould and wife Rhonda of Guyton, GA, her daughter, Anna Marie Gould Grass of Port Wentworth, GA, her granddaughter, Christina Gould Sullivan and husband Jason of Germany and their twin sons, Austin & Noah, and granddaughter, Katrina Chandler. She is also survived by her brother, J.J. Collins and wife Johnnie Faye of Miami, FL, brother, Wayne Collins and wife Ernestine of Twin City, brother, Gene Collins and wife Martha Faye of Metter, and sister, Kathryn Creech and husband Richard of Metter; brother-in-law, Donald Howell of Port Wentworth, and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was a loving mother to her family and a Christian of the Baptist faith. She was a Sunday school teacher, Cub Scout Den Mother and a volunteer for the Boy Scouts.
When the family moved to Louisiana she became a women's clothing buyer for Weiss & Goldring's in Alexandria. After her family was raised, she moved back to Port Wentworth where she worked for J.B. White Department Store and later Dillard's at Savannah Mall. After retiring there she went to work with the Port Wentworth Senior Citizen's Center and later became the Center Coordinator.
When she became ill, she was able to be home for a while , then with her son in Guyton and later went to live with her oldest son in Alabama where she lived until her health required her to be moved into Monroe Manor Health & Rehab Center there. After battling Dementia and C.O.P.D., she was taken home to be with her family in Christ in Heaven.
The visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with the funeral to follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
