Springfield – Margaret Brogdon Newsome, 98, passed away August 2, 2023 at the Effingham Care Center.

She was born on November 28, 1924, the second of three daughters born to Ruth and Edgar Brogdon.  She was an Effingham County native and was a member of the Bonaventure Road Church of Christ for many years while living in Savannah, Georgia.  In later years after returning to Springfield, Georgia, she was a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ.

After graduating from high school, she went to Business College in Savannah, Georgia and worked for Levy and Kiley Architects before marrying James Byron Newsome on June 21, 1947.  In later years, she worked for Annette's Dairy in Savannah, Georgia then became a full time Homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar William Brogdon and Ruth Williams Brogdon, her husband, James Byron Newsome, and her sisters, Loree Brogdon Hinely and  Eula Mae Brogdon.

Survivors include her children, Patricia (Krenson) Kniphfer of Oliver, Georgia and Tim (Linda) Newsome of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren include, Krenson E. Kniphfer, Kimberly Whiddon, James Newsome and Heather MacEachern; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023.  Visitation is planned for 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Abbey West.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given to the Effingham County Health System Ladies Auxiliary, 459 GA Hwy 119 S., Springfield, GA 31329.
