Our entire family is saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Marie "Lucille" Crapse Dowd on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at her son and daughter-in-law's home in Pooler, Georgia. Lucille was a vibrant individual who held steadfast to her opinions and views. She was born in Rincon, Georgia on November 26, 1934. Lucille married John J. Dowd on August 3, 1951. She and Johnny were married 60 years until his death on October 7, 2011. Lucille was a resident of Pooler for 72 years from 1952 until her death.

Lucille worked for Southern Bell for six years and Gulfstream Aerospace for 24 years. She was a faithful member of Rothwell Baptist Church and taught the Quida Sutton Sunday School Class until her failing sight caused her to hand the teaching over to one of her fellow classmates. She was also on the Restoration Committee when the church flooded.

Lucille was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John J. Dowd, infant child, John James Dowd, Jr, mother and father, Ola Mae and Asbury Crapse, brothers Fred Crapse and John Crapse and her daughter-in-law, Linda Spilliards Dowd.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Diane Dowd of Pooler, Georgia and her daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Rex Coleman of Colonels' Island, Georgia, her grandchildren Joshua Coleman, Nikkie Reagan (Erik), Jacob Coleman and Anthony Dowd (Mallorie), her great-grandchildren Joshua Coleman, II, Brady Faith Reagan, Riley Fuller Dowd, Noah Dowd, Elliott Coleman, Skylar Dowd, Cade Reagan, Coleman Dowd and Silas Coleman, sister, Margaret C. Anderson (Doyle) of Portal, Georgia and her brother, Richard S. Crapse (Pam) of Statesboro, Georgia.

Our family would like to thank Sholanda of Right at Home, Yolanda, Megan and Brittany of Hospice Savannah and personal caregivers Careen and Katrina for their kind and gracious care of Lucille during her illness.

The visitation will be on Thursday,  April 25, 2024, at Rothwell Baptist Church in Pooler, Georgia, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the service to honor Lucille's life at 11:00 a.m. immediately after the visitation.

Burial will take place in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Bloomingdale, Georgia on Thursday, April 25, 2024, immediately following the services.
