Faulkville – Marie Sessions, 69, died on July, 18 at Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Marie was born on September 25, 1942 in Savannah and graduated from Groves High School in 1961. She was an avid softball player and coached the Todd Oil Ladies Softball team to the Georgia State Championship in 1973. Marie became the first female motorcycle officer for the Savannah Police Department in the 1960's. A die-hard Georgia football fan, she could be found cheering on her "Dawgs" every Saturday in the fall. Marie had a talent for woodworking, cooking, and making everyone around her laugh. She enjoyed life to the fullest even after becoming disabled. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Conceida Smith Sessions; and her brother, Kenny Sessions.
Survivors include her sister, Bobbie May (Emory) of Rincon; her nephew, Tony and great-nephew, Ethan; a special great-niece, Taylor and great-nephew, Nicholas; as well as by her brother, Teddy Dixon and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving Marie is her beloved extended family, Linda, Ashley, and Tabatha Turner.
The funeral to celebrate Miss Sessions' life was on Saturday, July 21 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Kenny Harrelson officiating. Music was provided by Mr. Clayton Turner. Pallbearers were Grayson Turner, Clayton Turner, Scott Turner, Tony May, Keith Griffis and John Faust. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim.
