Mrs. Marjorie Boykin Laffitte, a member of the Port Wentworth United Methodist
Church since 1991, died at Hospice Savannah on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the age of 93.
She attended the Kate Hester Sunday School Class and participated in the Bennet Howell
Circle of the United Methodist Women.
She was a native of Screven County, near Sylvania, Georgia, and moved to
Savannah, Georgia after her marriage where she and her husband were faithful members
of Immanuel Baptist for decades until moving to Port Wentworth. She was preceded in
death by her husband of fifty-seven years, Henry Hawley Laffitte; parents, James Boykin
and Madie Scott Boykin, her siblings, James Earl Boykin, Oscar (T) Boykin, Mildred
Smith, Evelyn Floyd, Doris Harvey, Helen Brazzel, and Mary Busch.
Survivors include three children, Gail Purvis and husband, Neal, of Savannah,
Joyce Babcock and husband, Lannon, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Carol Floyd and
husband, Allen, of Jacksonville, Florida; sisters, Geraldine McGraw of Savannah, Eunice
Peavy and husband, Horace, of Port Wentworth; a brother, Gerald (Bubba) Boykin and
wife, Margie, of Port Wentworth; sisters-in-law, Joyce Boykin, of Port Wentworth and
Theda Laffitte of Atlanta, Georgia. She also leaves seven grandchildren, fifteen
great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Port Wentworth United
Methodist Church.
Funeral: 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Port Wentworth United Methodist Church. Burial
will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens on Bonaventure Road in Savannah.
