Guyton – Mark Edward Maier, 57, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021 at St. Joseph's Hospital into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, but lived the past 32 years in Georgia.  He served in the United States Army where he met his wife while stationed at Fort Stewart.  He was the owner of Maier Auctions and Realty for 28 years.  He loved auctions, heavy equipment, and land.  He had a deep calling for ministry and serving the church, always having a heart of generosity and compassion.

Mark is survived by his wife of 34 years, Margaret Salter Maier, and his 5 precious children who meant everything to him, Ty (Carolyn) Maier, Sam (Elisabeth) Maier, Grace Maier, James Maier, and Hope Maier.  He is also survived by his sister, Janice (Kenny) Robinson, nieces Kelly (Chris) Gerding and Sara (Will) Newton, and great-niece Hailey.  Also survived by June Salter, his mother-in-law who he loved dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Maier, Sr. and Charlene Himmelheber, and his brother and sister-in-law Gene (Linda) Maier.  Also was his father-in-law, Jerry Salter, Sr.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 25, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home, Effingham Chapel, 2460 Hwy. 21 S., Rincon, GA 31326.

Funeral service will be Thursday, August 26, 2021.  Visitation will be at 11 a.m. with the funeral following at 12 p.m. at Compassion Christian Church - Effingham Campus, 810 Fort Howard Road, Rincon, GA 31326.

There will be a private burial for immediate family only.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Compassion Christian Church.
