Obituary

Marlene Bondurant, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 86. She was born on September 5, 1937 at Fort Sam Houston Hospital, San Antonio, Texas, to her loving parents Henry Loyd Latimer Jr. and Blanche Bost Latimer.

Marlene was a devoted wife to her husband James Carl Bondurant, whom she married on April 3, 1958 at the Chapel on Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas. Their love story was a testament to commitment, loyalty, and unwavering support. Together, they created a beautiful family and shared countless cherished memories.

Marlene was a nurturing and dedicated mother to her two children, Richard Horesky and Janet Calvert. Richard, along with his wife Jane Horesky, and Janet, along with her husband Greg Calvert, were her pride and joy. Marlene's love for her children was immeasurable, and she always made sure they felt cherished and supported in all their endeavors.

Family meant the world to Marlene, and she absolutely adored her five grandchildren Richard Horesky (Kari Horesky), Jennifer Kushner (Joseph Kushner), Rebecca Horesky (Phillip Chapman), Courtney Calvert, and Emily Calvert; and seven great-grandchildren (Kayla, RJ, Bailey, Tyler, Phillip Jr., Lorelei, and Janelle), who brought immense happiness to her life. These grandchildren were a true reflection of Marlene's legacy and the values she instilled in her own children. The will forever cherish her memory and strive to live their lives guided by her wisdom and love.

Marlene attended San Marcos High School where she completed her education, graduating in 1954. She excelled academically, and her thirst for knowledge was evident in everything she did. Marlene's commitment to learning continued throughout her life, and she found great joy in pursuing new interests and expanding her horizons. Marlene wrote numerous poetries over the  years, several of which were published, and others were shared with family and friends.

Professionally, Marlene dedicated her time and energy to supporting the day-to-day operations of the organizations. Her attention to detail, organizational skills, and warm personality made her an invaluable asset to the companies, and she will be remembered fondly by her colleagues. Marlene had various secretarial positions including Secretary to Samuel E. Neel, Attorney for Mortgage Bankers Association; and Mid-Continent Oil & Gas Association. She then attended the International Congress of Building Societies and Savings Associations in West Berlin, Germany, as Secretary to Josephine Hedges Ewalt, the Secretary-General.  Marlene worked for Mr. Frederick J. Hass, President of Frederick I Hass, after many years of working with the Hass's Marlene decided to retire.

Marlene touched the lives of many with her kindness, selflessness, and genuine compassion.  She had an infectious smile that lit up every room she entered, and her warm and caring nature made her a beloved friend to many.  Those who had the privilege of knowing Marlene knew her as someone who was always willing to lend a hand, listen without judgement, and offer words of encouragement.

Marlene will forever be remembered for her unwavering faith, resilient spirit, and her ability to find joy in life's simplest pleasures.  Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

Marlene Elizabeth Bondurant will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her beloved husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends.  Her departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her memory will forever serve as a beacon of love, hope, and strength to all.

Friends and family are invited to Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home in Rincon, GA on Sunday, September 17th.  Viewing is at 4:00pm-5:00pm.  Funeral services will start at 5:00pm.  Interment will be in Beaufort National Cemetery, South Carolina on Monday September 18th at 10:00am.
