Garden City-Mr. Marshall Julius (M.J.) Hooks, peacefully passed into his eternal rest at
his home on Sunday, September 19, 2010 following an extended illness.
M.J. was born in Metter, GA to the late George T. Hooks and Alma Hooks Austin. M.J.
was a member of the Living Faith Church of God in Guyton where he was a faithful
member of the Men's Brigade. He was actively involved in the Garden City Lions Club
as well as the Coastal Georgia Tres Dias Community. M.J. retired as a Millwright from
International Paper after 42 years of service where he was a member of the Machinists
Local 23. He was an avid outdoorsman and his love for fishing was only surpassed by his
love for his family. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Martha Faye Jordan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Emma (Purvis) Hooks; his four daughters
and sons-in-law, Vicky Tomberlin (Michael), Valerie Martin (Beve), Vonda Sinclair
(Del), and Vanessa Denison (Doug); grandchildren, Howard Tomberlin (Sharla), Whitney
Tomberlin, Emalee Martin, Eric Martin, Chelsea Sinclair, Trey Sinclair, Nicholas
Denison and Makenzie Denison; two sisters, Jeanette Ellis (Ronnie) and Georgia Lowery
(Ronnie) and one brother Randy Hooks (Ligia); several nieces, nephews, close friends
and a very lucky cat, Lola.
The visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at the Thomas C.
Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham Chapel in Pooler.
The funeral will be at 12 noon on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the Living Faith
Church of God located at 3789 Noel C. Conaway Road, Guyton, GA. Burial will follow
at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens located at 1315 Greenwich Road, Savannah, GA.
