Martha Jane Kessler Johnson

Martha Jane Kessler Johnson of Rincon, GA passed away Saturday, November 24 ^th at the age of 81.  Martha was a previous resident of Augusta, GA but moved to Effingham County several years ago with her late husband Emerson Johnson.

She was married to the late Emerson Johnson for over 57 years. They spent their last years together in a home they built in Rincon on land belonging to the estate of Paul and Alma Kessler, her late parents.  The two of them loved to travel, fish, and spend time with family.

Martha enjoyed sports, and was a huge Atlanta Braves fan. She was an avid cook and loved preparing meals for family and friends.  Martha loved to worship the Lord with her church family, and was a founding member of Sherwood Baptist Church in Augusta, GA.  She was a longtime member of Rincon Baptist Temple in Rincon, GA.

Martha is preceded in death by her husband, Emerson Leslie Johnson, her parents, Paul and Alma Kessler (Rincon), her brothers, Claudey Kessler (Garden City), Arte Kessler (Augusta/Rincon), Jimbo Kessler (Rincon), sisters, Geneva Farrah (Tennessee), Victoria Rought (Port Wentworth), Dora Kessler (Rincon), Hazel White (Savannah), and Joseph Kessler (Rincon).

Martha is survived by her daughters, Sandra Campbell of Charlotte, NC and Donna Herron of Winsor, SC, her son, Glen Johnson and wife Janet of North Augusta, SC; friend and caretaker, Dana Mead (Springfield); numerous grandkids and great-grandkids, nieces and nephews, and hundreds of friends.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel.

Martha will be buried next to her husband in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Savannah.
