Obituary

Bloomingdale – Mary Ida Driggers Cowart died Wednesday, March 29 at Memorial Hospital in Savannah. Her parents were William and Bertha Cribbs Driggers of Glennville, Georgia.
Mary graduated with degrees in education and counseling from Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University. She taught in New Orleans, Louisiana; Macon, Georgia; and retired after serving many years as counselor at Marlow Elementary School in Effingham County.
Mary married her high school sweetheart, Travis B. Cowart, Sr., in 1959. She and Travis would have celebrated their 58th anniversary on April 24. Mary has been a devoted pastor's wife for over 56 years.
Mary and Travis have three daughters, Alison (Robert) Cornwell, Susan (Jeff) Cox, and Karen (Bill) Newsome; one son, Travis, Jr. (Gail); a foster son, Shannon Hall (Angie); and nine granddaughters, two grandsons, five great-granddaughters, and five great-grandsons. Mary is also survived by four sisters, Miriam Nunnally, Meta Knight, Deborah Schneider, and Marsha Driggers.
Visitation will be held at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home in Pooler on Friday, March 31 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Powers Baptist Church in Eden, Georgia, on Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m. The family recommends that remembrances be made to the Powers Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 730, Eden, GA 31307.
