Mrs. Mary B. Helmey, 81, of Guyton, GA, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2024 at her home.

Mary was born in Claxton, GA and had lived in Effingham County for many years.  She was preceded in death by her son, George Edward Helmey, Jr. "Eddie"; her parents, Rufus Rogers and Lessie V. Rewis Rogers, as well as five sisters and two brothers.  She was known for her exceptional organizational skills, a woman of her word, and she was always ready to serve in any capacity to help others.  She was a member of Centerpoint Community Church in Rincon and was a former member of New Providence Baptist Church where she kept the nursery over 25 years.  She will be remembered for her great sense of humor and quick wit.  She will be missed.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Edward George Helmey, Sr.; daughter, Tammy Dickerson (Paul); daughter-in-law, Pam Helmey; she was affectionately known as Grandma Mary, Gigi, or Cracker to Jina Helmey Perdue (Jay), Christopher Bryan Helmey (Anna), Paul Kameron Dickerson (Alison), and Edward Kollin Dickerson; great-grandchildren, George Colton Helmey, Milo Edward Perdue, Easton Brooks Helmey, Wilder Steele Perdue, Aniston Gray Helmey, and due in February of 2025, Elouise Catherine Dickerson; sister, Bearnease Smith; brother, Coy Rogers, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

The graveside funeral and burial to celebrate Mary's life will be on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery located at 1336 Dean Forest Road in Garden City, GA.
