Garden City-Mrs. Mary K. Helmly, 85, passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Hospice Savannah.
Mrs. Mary was born to the late Dennis & Julia Mae Kautz. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Andrew L. Helmly; grandson, Logan Shelton and sister, Virginia Ruby. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garden City, served on the first Garden City Recreation Committee, was a member of the Garden City Homemakers Club, the American Legion Auxillary. She was employed for over 20 years at Benjamin O. Sprague Elementary School. She enjoyed, crafts, painting, beading, making cakes and was an avid yard worker.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Marcia H. Hagy of Port Wentworth and Andria H. & Billy Shelton of Garden City; grandchildren, Julie & Steve Trussell and their children, Katelyn and Bayleigh, Michael & Elizabeth Hagy and their children, Amber, Chelsea, Savanna and Hunter, Richard & Sondra Hagy and their children, Jordan, Jace and Gavin and Rebecca Ussery and her child, Skyler, Mark & Debra Shelton and their children, Dalton and Landon and Leighann Lovett and her children, Addison, Payton and Holden; two nephews and a niece, Duncan and Terry Harding and Ann Heim.
The visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Monday in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
