Rincon – Mary Beasley Hughes, 85, passed away April 9, 2023 at Effingham Hospital.

The Bulloch County native was a member of First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth and served on the visitation committee.  She retired from Chatham County Board of Education as a librarian.  She loved to read and cook.  Above all else she was a good mother and grandmother and will be extremely missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Molly Deal Beasley; husband of 63 years, Joseph Alton "Bud" Hughes; granddaughter, Sally Hughes; daughter-in-law, Jane Hughes; brother, Edgar Beasley; and sister, Linda Aycock.

Survivors include her sons, Joseph David Hughes, Edward Alton Hughes, and Gordon Glenn Hughes (Anita); 6 grandchildren, Robert Hughes, Casey Hughes, Ryan Hughes, Jessica Horton, Jennifer Jarrel, and Anna Hughes; 6 great-grandchildren, Josh Herrington, Genevieve Herrington, Joey Stidhodhams, Molly Hughes, Caroline Moore, and Evie Horton; brother, Joe Beasely; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2023 in the funeral home chapel.
