Rincon – Mary Jacqueline “Jackie” Hodges Barnes, 87, passed away peacefully July 25, 2026 at her residence with her family by her side.

The Chatham County native was a member of the Rincon Global Methodist Church, former member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Pooler where she sang in the choir, and had served and volunteered in many capacities in both churches. She formerly worked at Hogan’s Department Store, Gulfstream, and was a cosmetologist. She was a dedicated volunteer at Effingham Hospital Auxiliary for 20 years, worked as a poll worker for Effingham Elections, and was former vice-president of the Effingham Women’s Business Association. She loved cooking, cleaning, gardening, and shopping but most of all loved spending time with her family and her dog Taffy. She also enjoyed traveling, especially with a group of friends that called themselves the “Sunshine Girls”. She had a warm, welcoming personality that endeared her to all who knew her and touched many lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Earl Tillman Hodges and Alfreida Elizabeth Waldhour Hodges; husband, Charles Keith Barnes; sister, Ann Highsmith; and brother, John Earl Tillman Hodges, Jr.

Survivors include her daughters, Julie Ann Pratka (Paul) and Kimberly Joyce Barnes; granddaughter, Jennifer Hogg (Jeff); great-granddaughter, Jessica Hogg; nieces, Arlene Kicklighter (David) and Kristina Highsmith; nephew, Kelly Highsmith (Sheryl).

The family would like to thank her dedicated caretakers who were like family, Alicia, Alice, Barbara, and Bridge Hospice staff.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at the funeral home followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. in the chapel.

Interment will follow in Jerusalem Lutheran Church Cemetery.
