Mary Oglesby Kieffer passed away peacefully at home on September 15, 2023 at the age of 79.

She was born on October 28, 1943 and was a life-long resident of Effingham County.  A member of the ECHS Class of 1962, Mary was a devoted homemaker most of her life.  When her children were grown, she earned her real estate license and was an agent with Century 21 Heidt Realty. Later in life, she worked at Blandford Elementary with special needs children. "Her kids", as she referred to them, held a special place in her heart.  She was a faithful member of Springfield Oaks Church and the Willing Workers Circle for many years.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William Harvey Kieffer.  She was also preceded by her parents, Woodrow W. Oglesby, Sr. and Jennie Mae Helmly Oglesby; sister, Lenice Burris; brothers, Woodrow W. Oglesby, Jr. (Bubba) and James Langwood Oglesby.

Survivors include her children, Rhonda Shearouse (Randy), Ashley Kieffer (Tracy), John Kieffer (Elizabeth), and Phil Kieffer (Brandi); nine grandchildren, Kieffer Shearouse, Annah Shearouse, Grace Kieffer, Isabel Kieffer, Bryan Kieffer, Owen Kieffer, Will Kieffer, Newton Kieffer, and John Ross Kieffer; sisters Jenell Henley and Janice Miller. She also leaves behind her beloved furry companion, Lilly.

Visitation will be Monday 6:00 p.m. to  8:00 p.m. at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Springfield Oaks Church.

Interment at Stillwell Cemetery.
