Mary D. Little
Mary D. Little, 93, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017 at Effingham Care Center.
Born in Effingham County, she grew up in Candler County where she later married and raised her children. She was an active member of Metter United Methodist Church for over 40 years and worked in the nursing profession at Candler County Hospital for more than 20 years.
She moved back to Effingham County in 1984 and was an active member of North Salem Baptist Church up until the last several years of her life. She enjoyed cooking and gardening but most of all, entertaining her family. She lived out her faith in service to her family, friends and others. She was a devoted follower of Christ and loved the Lord.
Mrs. Little was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew J. and Pearl Dickey; siblings John A. Dickey, Laura Pearl Cook and Alva Hearn; husbands, Preston N. Cook, Sr. and Johnnie M. Little; 6 step-children and their spouses; son-in-law, David B. Rahn; two step-grandsons and one granddaughter, Sally Elizabeth Nyborg. She is survived by 3 children, Ellen C. Rahn, Preston N. Cook, Jr. (LaRona), Jan C. Nyborg (Richard); 5 grandchildren, Michelle R. Evans (Matt), Melanie Rahn, Mark Miles (Laura), Gina C. Nelson (Paul), Lori C. Tuttle (Wes); 13 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 am Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, Effingham Chapel, 2460 Highway 21 South, Rincon, GA 31326. Interment to follow at Lake Cemetery, Metter, GA.
