Mary Elizabeth "Liz" (Greene) Urban age, 85, passed away June16, 2016 at her home in Pooler, GA under hospice care.
Liz was born to William J. Greene and Beatrice (Knight) Greene on March 6, 1931. She graduated from Savannah High School. She met Jerry Urban while he was stationed at the Hunter Army Airfield and they married on December 30, 1950. Liz was a member of the Pooler First Baptist Church. She was the beloved mother of three, Jay Urban (of Walterboro, SC), Walter Urban (of West Union, SC), and Cheryl A. Karst (Urban of Guyton, GA / deceased).
Liz was a former employee of Southern Bell now AT&T in Savannah. She traveled with her family to France as Jerry was stationed in France while in the Air Force. Returning to the States, her family resided in Columbus, Ohio until Jerry retired from the USAF in 1968.
At that time they returned to Pooler and Liz went back to work at AT&T and Jerry went to work at Grumman Aircraft now Gulfstream Aerospace. She was a Pooler native and proud of her little town.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl A. (Urban) Karst; two sisters, Cornelia Burnsed, and Clyde Chapman. Survivors include her husband, Jarolin J. Urban "Jerry"; two sons, Jay Urban, Walterboro SC, and Walter Urban West Union, SC; one sister, Patricia L (Greene) George, Savannah, Ga. She loved and was loved by all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as her many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice and remembrances can be made to Compassionate Care Hospice in Pooler. Ga.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 19th at the funeral home from 12: Noon - 1:30 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Darrell Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest West Cemetery.
