Savannah-Mrs. Mary Lee Redd Gantt, 86, died on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Spanish Oaks Retreat & Hospice.
Born in Aiken County, South Carolina, Mrs. Gantt had lived in Port Wentworth for over 40 years, residing the last few years in Savannah. She was a member of Port Wentworth UMC and recently attended White Bluff UMC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman R. and Daisy Cushman Redd, her husband of 62 years, Sidney Lester Gantt, Jr., and a daughter, Janice Arlene Gantt.
Mrs. Gantt worked for many years as a bookeeper; her last employment was at Delta Sales in Port Wentworth. She was known for her cooking and anyone who visited her could always count on her preparing their favorite food, no matter what she had planned. She enjoyed crossword, wordfinder puzzles and embroidery. She loved animals and never met a stranger.
Survivors include her children, Daisy Irene Gantt, Sidney Lester (Rowena) Gantt, III; grandchildren, Jeri (Billy), Dawn (Nick) and Jamey (Jennifer); great-grandchildren, Zachary, Cristina, Morgan, Billy and Max; brother, Eugene "Tom" Redd; nieces and nephews and special buddy, Orion Alford.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Anthony Sussman, Catherine Bradley, NP, Dr. Ali Rahimi, Katie Davis, RN and her extended family at Spanish Oaks.
Visitation: 4-6 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
Funeral: 3 p.m. on Sunday in the chapel of the funeral home.
Graveside Funeral: 1 p.m. on Monday at Wagener Cemetery in Wagener, South Carolina.
