Bloomingdale-Mr. Mathews C. Herring, Sr., 88, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Herring was born in Chatham County to the late James Newton Herring, Sr. and Janie Eloise Herring. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Wanda F. Herring. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church in Savannah and retired from American Cyanamid. He served his country in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his children, Carleen H. Price and Vickie C. Herring, both of Bloomingdale and Mathew C. Herring, Jr. & Margie of Christiansburg, VA; grandchildren, Meghann Elizabeth Garmany of New York City, NY and Kimberly N. & Dean Torek of Canton, GA; great-grandchildren, Isabelle & Peter Torek, both of Canton; sister, Eloise Porter of Augusta; brother, William S. Herring & Susie of Richmond Hill and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Monday at St. James Catholic Church located at 8412 Whitfield Avenue in Savannah.
