Melvin Curtis Tanner, Sr.
Sylvania – Melvin Curtis Tanner, Sr., 68, passed away February 8, 2020 at his residence. Melvin fought a long battle of cancer.
He retired from Effingham County Public works. Then he joined the Local #474 where he took his retirement from there. Melvin loved hunting and fishing and spending time with family and friends. He loved being with his family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Monteen Carrington and his father, Jimmy Tanner.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Donna; son, Melvin Curtis Tanner, II "Curt" (Nicole) of Shawnee; 2 daughters, Rachel Ruarks (Tom) of Newington, Sarah Braswell (Troy) of Metter; 8 grandchildren, Braden and Jacob Tanner, Charles Patterson, Tesa (Bryan) Edenfield, Eric Braswell, Emily, Elaina, and Tommy Ruarks; 3 sisters, Retha, Ruth, and Shirley; 2 brothers, James and Wilbur; a number of nieces and nephews, cousins, and 2 aunts..
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel. Pallbearers will be, George Stone, Mike Beauchane, Travis Flakes, Lawton Hickman, Robbie Busbee, Alan Jones, Joe Henderson, and Ronnie Best.
Interment will follow in Silver Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
