Obituary

Meredith Earl Walker, Pooler, passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Augusta University Health at the age of 71.

He was born May 22, 1946 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Wilson E. and Virginia (Myers) Walker, and was a 1964 graduate of Garfield High School. Meredith proudly served his country in the United States Navy as an Electrician's Mate and was a Vietnam War Veteran.

After the service, Meredith used his knowledge of electronics and fascination with flight to build a lifelong career as an avionics engineer, a career that afforded him the opportunity to live and work all over the country and travel the world while working for many notable aerospace companies. He was employed as a Technical Specialist III with Gulfstream Aerospace at the time of his passing.

Meredith was an avid amateur radio operator for over 40 years and could be heard most weekends transmitting a CQ under the call sign N4BPX. He also enjoyed sailing, surf fishing, and cruising the Caribbean with his wife, and had planned to do more of each if ever he found himself old enough to retire.

In 1996, he received a life-saving kidney transplant, a procedure he never took for granted. Those "extra" 22 years of life were lived to the fullest in honor of his unknown donor.

Meredith will be remembered as a true patriot, loving husband, caring father, proud Papa, and loyal friend.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Marcia Baker Walker, his children Jeffery Walker and Patrick Walker of Terre Haute, IN, Michelle Beai (Steve) of Pueblo, CO, Angel Gallagher Herb (Charles) of Pembroke, GA, and Jennifer Walker May (Tony) of Sandersville, GA, his 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers David Walker (Bev) and Ken Walker of Terre Haute, IN, and sister Carolyn Barnes (John) of Clinton, IN.

Visitation with family and friends will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Strickland Funeral Home, 2460 Highway 21 South, Rincon. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m.  Interment with military honors will be in Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville later in the week.
