IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael Andrew
"Mickey" Krombholz
August 14, 2024
Michael Andrew "Mickey" Krombholz, 77 years old, passed away unexpectedly while sleeping peacefully in his bed on August 14, 2024. Mickey, also known as Dad and Papa, was born July 4, 1947, in Savannah, GA, to Harold and Mary Krombholz.
Mickey's very life was a miracle from day 1 as he was born prematurely at 3 lbs. with a heart condition and not expected to survive. However, God's purpose and plan for his life was not over. Mickey went on to have major open-heart surgery to repair his heart at the age of 12 years old. He was able to overcome these early obstacles in his life and enjoyed playing many sports, especially bowling, softball, tennis, and golf. Later, he graduated from Groves High School and went on to pursue a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Chemistry at Armstrong State College. After graduation, he began his 30+ year career as a chemist at Union Camp where he eventually became a Senior Research Chemist and enjoyed traveling the world for his job.
Mickey met and married Donna Drinkwater, and they had two children, Carrie, and Troy, who brought great joy to their lives. After retiring from Union Camp/International Paper and becoming empty-nesters, Mickey and Donna followed the Lord's nudging on their hearts to head to the Smoky Mountains, so they packed up and moved from Savannah to East Tennessee in 2000. Mickey loved the peace and beauty of the mountains, watching wildlife and measuring the annual snowfall in their yard and would often be found on his front porch with a cup of coffee watching the birds at his feeders. Even after retiring from Union Camp, Mickey wanted to stay active and worked in various jobs with his favorites being his work at Classic Cookie and Chick-fil-A Sevierville.
During this time, Mickey and Donna enjoyed one of their greatest blessings in becoming Nana and Papa to 5 beautiful grandchildren who are their pride and joy. Mickey would always find ways to bring joy and laughter to his grandkids' lives as their Papa. In 2015, Mickey and Donna relocated back to Savannah to care for Donna's parents. Mickey continued the job he loved at Chick-fil-A by joining the team at CFA Victory Drive where he worked until his death, always serving customers with kindness and a smile.
Mickey loved the Lord and his family and his life was a bright light of kindness, servanthood, joy and love as well as a testimony of God's faithfulness. Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mary Krombholz; mother and father-in-law, Bill and Frances Drinkwater; aunt, Gwendolyn Thompson, and uncle, Buddy Kuykendall. Mickey is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Donna, his daughter, Carrie and her husband, Paul Zimmerman, and his son, Troy and his wife, Susan Krombholz, as well as his much-loved grandchildren, Ella, Andrew and Ethan Zimmerman and Tobijah and Micaiah Krombholz. Mickey also leaves behind many special family and friends.
Visitation will take place Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 10:00am at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home Chapel on 901 Highway 80 West, Pooler, GA 31322, with the funeral service following immediately. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
