Mildred Seckinger Burgstiner

Mildred Seckinger Burgstiner (96) who was lovingly known as "Mama, Mom, and Mema" of Rincon, GA went to her eternal home on April 19, 2025. She passed quietly under Hospice Care in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Jack Herrington.
She was born on August 9th, 1928 to Lester and Nora Seckinger of Rincon, GA., and had three brothers and two sisters. She was married on June 12th, 1949 at Jerusalem Ebenezer Lutheran Church to Harold Lafayette Burgstiner, "HL".
Mildred was a baptized and confirmed Christian devoted to her Lord. She was one of the original founders with her sister Mabel Hodge of Christ Lutheran Church, Tibet Ave., Savannah, GA. As this church disbanded, she then became a founding member of Risen Savior Lutheran Church, Pooler, GA. She served both these churches in many ways: Sunday School Teacher, Women's Bible Study Leader, and Altar Guild Leader and member, serving in this capacity for 65 years. Mildred participated actively in all aspects of church life and shared her Savior, Jesus Christ with others.
After she graduated from Rincon High School she moved to Savannah. She started working at Levy's Department store as their accounts clerk. Then she went to work for The Desoto Hilton and was trained as their bookkeeper. While living in Savannah she sang with the Savannah Symphony Chorus and was a contestant in the Miss Savannah Beauty Pageant of 1947. She was a graduate of Draughn's Business College, Savannah, GA. After graduating she was sent to work for the Life of Georgia Insurance Company, Savannah, GA, as a business secretary. It was here she met and married her helpmeet and soulmate "HL".
Mildred was a loving and devoted wife for 67 years to "HL", and a model Christian mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her immediate family and others who considered her their "Mama" or "Mema". She was a homemaker, an excellent cook, and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. She was a seamstress, avidly crocheted, and loved her garden and flowers. Mildred grew orchids in her home and transferred a rose bush of her mother's called "Seven Sisters" everyplace she lived.
She was the matriarch of two-family reunions that have existed for approximately 130 years. One is the fall "Family BBQ" held the second Saturday in November, and the other is the July "Family Dinner", complete with homemade ice cream.
Mildred was a life member of the Georgia Salzburger Society. She was a former member of the Savannah Widow's Society and had served on their Board of Directors. Lastly, she was a member of the Bethel Burton Community Service Club, Bethel Burton Social Club, and the Grove Hill Garden Club. As a member of all these groups she served the Savannah community with many service projects and volunteered her time generously. She entered many of her projects in the Coastal Empire Fair and was rewarded with multiple 1st place awards.
She is survived by: son Danny (Dawn) Burgstiner, Rincon, GA, daughter Beverly (Steve deceased) O'Connell, Altoona, FL, daughter Andrea (Jack) Herrington, Rincon, GA and daughter Loren (Brad) Hudson, Rincon, GA.
