Mildred Elizabeth Hagan Hendrix

Mildred Elizabeth Hagan Hendrix (96), oldest child of John Wesley and Josie Elizabeth Davis Hagan, was born on June 6, 1916 in rural Bulloch County Georgia. She married James Lee Hendrix on December 18, 1935 and together they reared six children. Mildred was the wife of a farmer for the first 10 years of her married life before becoming the wife of a minister in the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. Although Rev. Hendrix was the ordained minister Mildred was his partner in ministering to the members of the congregations and of the communities being served. She was a selfless, Christian lady remembered for her love of and service to God. She was admired, respected and loved dearly by her children and their spouses for whom her life was a clear demonstration of what a Christian life should be. Mrs. Hendrix adored and was adored by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. She was a member of the Midway United Methodist Church and the Gainesville Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mrs. Hendrix was predeceased by her parents; husband; grandson Gregg Hendrix; brothers Harold, Marion and Walter Hagan; and sister Jonnie Sue Hagan Cook Dixon. She is survived by daughter Margie Hendrix Barden (Ron) of Thomasville, GA; daughter Dorothy Hendrix Hope (Marion) of Gainesville, FL; son James Lee Hendrix, Jr. (Patricia) of Griffin, GA; son John Walter Hendrix (Cheri) of Cumming, GA; daughter Margaret Hendrix of Richmond Hill, GA; daughter Ruth Hendrix Garrard (Jerry) of Atlantic Beach, FL; 15 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sister Helen Hagan Broderick of Midway, GA; sister-in-law Ann Hendrix Kennedy of Acworth, GA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013. Visitation: 10-11:00 a.m. in the Midway United Methodist Church. Funeral: 11:00 a.m. in the Midway United Methodist Church. Interment: 2:00 p.m. in the Brooklet City Cemetery. Grandchildren will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers make a contribution to your favorite charity or the Midway United Methodist Church.
