Mrs. Mildred Lightsey Thornton of Garden City, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026.
She was born May 12, 1937, in Appling County, moved to the Savannah area in 1960 and then to Garden City in 1962. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Clarence “Bookie” Thornton, and her parents, Leland and Hester Lightsey. She was a member of Garden City Primitive Baptist Church. She devoted her life to her family and her faith, raising her three children with love and patience. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who each have many, many memories of her and what she meant to them. She was loved by so many who, over the years, have expressed how they were touched by her kindness and selflessness.
Survivors include her children, Clarence A. “Andy” Thornton (Francine), Kay Hudson (Tim), and Angela Razook (Danny); grandchildren, Tony Ellis (Sam), Kirstin Brinkley, Jeremy Razook, Haley Roennebeck (Michael), Matthew Hudson, Kyle Hudson, Brandie Thornton, and Harley Thornton; great-grandchildren, Ryder Ward, Khloe Brinkley, Myla Razook, Adalynn Brinkley, Grayson Thornton, Blaire Roennebeck, Zoey Roennebeck, and Raelynn Flener, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be on Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The funeral to honor Mildred’s life will be on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.
