Obituary

Mrs. Mildred Pope Yeomans, 96, of Garden City, Georgia, went to be home with our Lord on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

Mildred was born on October 20, 1928 in Jeff Davis County, Georgia.  She lived in Garden City, Georgia for 72 years.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 79 years, Travis Yeomans; parents, Henry Carson Pope, Sr. and Minnie Lee Pope Tedder; brothers, James Pope, Henry Pope, Caroll "Buddy" Tedder; sisters, Louise Zeigler, and Elizabeth Pallace; brother-in-law, Carroll Zeigler; son-in-law, Al Watts.  She was a charter member of South Newington Baptist Church and was the oldest surviving member of the Bloomingdale Nazarene Church where she was a member for 40 years, and where she spent numerous years teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and serving on other committees.  She was dedicated to serving God and made sure that her family was always in church whenever possible.  She loved working in the garden, sewing, quilting, traveling, fishing, and baking.  She was known for her wonderful Carrot Cake and Buttermilk Biscuits.  She worked at Union Bag for 11 years and was known as a hard worker.  She enjoyed making caps for her husband to sell at his work.

Survivors include her daughters, Gail Watts, Barbara Griffin (Alton), and Joyce Stafford (Rodney); grandchildren, Terry Douberley (Dale), Tony Watts (Erin), Cindy Farmer (Corey), Lee Griffin, Justin Stafford (Amanda); eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Greene (Johnny) and Patricia Carlton (Alvin), and brother, Fred Tedder (Ann), as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be on Friday, November 15, 2024 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The funeral to honor Mildred's life will be on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery.  Pastor Ted Tedder will officiate.  The active pallbearers will be Tony Watts, Lee Griffin, Justin Stafford, Rodney Stafford, Dale Douberley, and Carson Farmer.  The honorary pallbearers will be Norman Chapman, Dylan Redding, Colton Farmer, Tommy McCorkel, Corey Farmer, and Fred Tedder.
