Pooler-Mr. Millard Winfield (M.W.) Stafford, Jr., 87, died on Tuesday, October 8, 2013.
He was born on October 24, 1925 in Tattnall County, GA, he was the son of the late Millard Winfield Stafford, Sr. and the late Mozelle Groover Stafford. He is preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Ruth Callaway Stafford and granddaughters, Katherine and Samantha Huggins.
M.W. served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He retired from Union Camp. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pooler where he served as a deacon. He was also a member of the Richard T. Turner Masonic Lodge, #116, The Georgia Salzburgers Society and Sons of Confederate Veterans, Tattnall Invisibles Camp 154.
Survivors include his daughters, Debra (Lewis) Herrin, Renee (Joey) Herndon and DeNorah (Walt) Huggins; son, Wendell Stafford; eight grandchildren, Lara (Darren) Harrison, David Herrin, Leah Herrin, Adam Herndon, Erin (Jarrett) Walden, Erica Herndon, Natalie Huggins and Evan Huggins; four great-grandchildren, Emma Harrison, Aiden Harrison, Parker Walden and Pierce Walden; sister, Jean (Bob) Decker and several nieces and nephews.
Active Pallbearers will be Robert Jernigan, Ken Stafford, Mitch Stafford, Andy Stafford, Eric B. Stafford, and Eric H. Stafford.
Honorary Pallbearers will be deacons of First Baptist Church of Pooler, members of the Sam Elkins Sunday School Class, and members of the Richard T. Turner Masonic Lodge # 116.
The funeral will be on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home in Pooler, with Rev. Otis Hill and Rev. Earl Best officiating. Interment will follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the funeral.
Remembrances may be given to First Baptist Church of Pooler, P.O. Box 506, Pooler, GA 31322 or to the Richard T. Turner Masonic Lodge # 116, 156 Royal Oaks Drive, Guyton, GA 31312.
