Meldrim-Mrs. Myra B. Purnell, 70, died on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Hospice
Savannah.

Mrs. Purnell was born in Bulloch County to the late Lewis D. & Myrtle S. Smith. She
was also preceded in death by her husband, Herman R. Purnell, Jr. and her daughter,
Barbara Gilbert. She was a member of the Fellowship Assembly of God Church in
Garden City and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her sons, Randy & Linda Purnell of Rincon, Rev. Steve & Tammy
Purnell of Sylvania and Ronnie & Jean Purnell of Meldrim; son-in-law, Keith Gilbert of
Bloomingdale; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother, Gene Smith of
Meldrim; sisters, Ione Newman of Meldrim, Jeanette Frost of Meldrim, Winfred Dowd of
Hinesville and Sarah Durden of Savannah and a number of nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the Thomas C.
Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham Chapel in Pooler.

The funeral to celebrate Mrs. Purnell's life will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27,
2008 in the chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Steve Meguiar officiating. Pallbearers
will be Kyle Purnell, Austin Purnell, Justin Purnell, Brian Purnell, Denny Purnell and
Lamar Dowd. Buril will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim.
