Springfield – Myrtice Johnson Carter, 84, passed away December 12, 2024 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Myrtice Johnson was born in Metter, Georgia to Morgan and Jessie (Lee) Johnson in June of 1940.  When she was four years old they moved to Uvalda, GA.  She made home there until she graduated from high school (Toombs Central).  In her senior year, she met Jack Carter in February.  When she graduated in May of 1958 they moved to Savannah where she lived with her sister until they married in December 1958.  They lived in Savannah until May when they moved to Rincon.  In 1978 Jack came home one day and said he had her a job driving a school bus.  She froze and said I cannot drive a big bus, but she did for 28 years driving several hundred children.  She loved every day of it. She retired in 2005.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, son Darrell, daughter Theresa, grandson Noah Murdaugh, son-in-law, Jamie Porter, her parents,  six sisters and seven brothers (including her twin brother, Curtis)

She is survived by children, Karen Porter, Joel Carter, and Lora Murdaugh (Shannon); grandchildren, Wesley Porter (Rosie), Leia Wampler (Ethan), Rachel Mobley (Jacob), Harley Ballard (Dalton), Hunter Bennett (Shaw), Carter Murdaugh, Walker Carter, Gabby Carter, Joelie Carter, Waylon Murdaugh; great-grandchildren, Braxton, Ira, Benedict, Potter, Cort, Elliana, and Sebastian; her care givers, Joyce, Tina, and Ruthie; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom many thought of Myrtice, as a mother more than an aunt.

Visitation: 6 – 8 pm Saturday, December 14, 2024 in the funeral home.

Funeral: 3 pm Sunday, December 15, 2024 in the funeral home chapel.

Interment: Springfield Cemetery Annex.
