Mrs. Nelda Kay Bevill Black
Springfield – Mrs. Nelda Black, 74, passed into the loving arms of her savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Nelda was born in Guyton at Dr. Charles T. Brown, Jr.'s clinic. She lived in Springfield, GA most of her life, living in Glen St. Mary, FL for 13 ½ years.
She was the daughter of the late Hazel Hinely Bevill and Watson Evans Bevill, Sr.
Nelda graduated from Effingham County High School in 1965.
She began a lifetime of service to her community as a Licensed Practical Nurse, working for Candler Hospital, then for Dr. Ray Webb, and then the Effingham County Nursing Home.
Nelda was an active member of First Baptist Church of Springfield, GA serving for many years as the cook for Wednesday night prayer meeting, she was famous for her "Chicken Pot Pie". She was involved in every area of the church where she could be a service to the members, always with a smile.
She was a member of the Effingham Hospital Auxiliary for many years, serving in the Effingham Care Center Beauty Shop.
Nelda was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Evans Black.
Nelda was the anchor for her family, serving each one of them with love. She is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Hollis Jefferson Black; her son, Ryan Judson Black; and daughter, Marla Alice Black Campbell (Eric). The joy of her life was her grandchildren, Kaylee and Shane Campbell. Nelda is also survived by her sisters, Nancy B. Ethridge (Curtis), Myrna B. Metzger (Brandon), and a brother, Watson Evans Bevill, Jr. (Lisa). She is also survived by her aunt, Shirley S. Bevill; and a number of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Nesta Dees and Shirley Simmons; and brother-in-law, Neal Black (Carolyn).
Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, February 11, 2021 at Springfield Cemetery Annex with Rev. Eric Green officiating. Pallbearers will be Phillip Dye, Watson Bevill, Chris Bevill, Alec Metzger, Graham Metzger, and Andrew Metzger.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in memory to, First Baptist Church of Springfield, 1435 Hwy. 119 N., Springfield, GA 31329, Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459, or charity of your choice.
