Springfield - Nicholas Wayne Bevill "Nickey" passed away on April 23, 2024 at Memorial Health
surrounded by his family.
He was born on December 3, 1946 to Odis Edward Bevill and Miriam Mercer Bevill. Nickey loved spending time with his family, becoming Pop in 2003 when his first grandchild was born. He dearly loved spending time with his grandchildren, they had him totally wrapped around their little fingers at first sight. Many fun times were spent on the Savannah River and a beach trip was the place he liked to visit most. Many trips to blue water were his favorite. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Kyle Bevill Stone; and his father-in-law, Bobby L. Zipperer.
Nickey was a 1965 graduate of Effingham County High School in Springfield, Georgia. He joined the Army National Guard of South Carolina in 1966 and received an Honorable Discharge in March 1972 as a Specialist 4 Co B 122 Engr Bn. He began his career in the telephone industry in 1966 working in Springfield at Georgia State Telephone and various other companies before going to Hargray Telephone Company 1978 as the Outside Plant Engineer Supervisor. He retired from Hargray in 2004. He was a member of the Clyo Masonic Lodge 280 joining in August 1979 where he was a Master Mason.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janis Zipperer Bevill; children, Jamie Bevill (Sarah) and Melissa Bevill Stone (Linny); grandchildren, Kaden Stone, Kyler Stone, Kinsey Stone, and Dalton Smith; great-grandchildren, Graycee Mae Blume and Tayton Smith; a brother Flynn Bevill of St Augustine, Florida; sister Barbara Brewer (Comer); mother-in-law, Dorothy Zipperer; brother-in-law, Alan Zipperer (Elise); sister-in-law, Kathy Zittrouer (Carroll); and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation will be at the First Baptist Church of Springfield from 2:30 to 3:45 on Thursday, April 25, 2024. The funeral will follow the visitation at 4:00. Interment at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.
Remembrances may be given to: Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or God's Mission House in care of First Baptist Church of Springfield.
