Exley (Andy)
September 14, 1945 – September 22, 2024
Rincon – Mr. Olan Anderson Exley (Andy) was born on September 14, 1945 in Savannah, GA and he passed from this earth into Heaven on September 22, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Olan C. and Mae Lee Exley.
He is survived by his son, Steve Exley (his wife, Sandi); his daughter, Melissa Slago (her husband, Tom); his grandchildren, Allison Wade (her husband, Sean), Justin Stringer (his wife, Martha), Taylor Exley, Colby DuPree (his wife, Leslie), Bradley Slago, and Amanda Slago; his great-granddaughters, Emma and Ella DuPree; his sister, Clara Lee Carter; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was a devout Christian and believer in Jesus Christ. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at a young age at Savannah's Calvary Baptist Temple, where he was a member for over 50 years. He later attended Abundant Life Church in Springfield and Rincon Church of God.
Mr. Andy was a self-described railroad man having retired from CSX Railroad after 25 years of service. He was also a skilled painter and was owner of Quality Painting Company for over 40 years.
Having a passion for baseball at a young age led him to pursue opportunities as a baseball coach. He coached youth and high school baseball as well as men's softball for over 32 years, with his teams winning numerous championships and state championships. More than championships his greatest influence derived from his mentoring of hundreds of youth. He taught his players how to not only win at baseball but also in life.
Above all, his greatest love was for his family, particularly his grandchildren. He found his true calling as a dad and granddad by demonstrating a constant and unwavering devotion to supporting each of their ambitions. The lives of his family have been and will continue to be changed as a result of his journey on this earth.
Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at the funeral home followed by funeral services at 12 noon in the chapel.
