Savannah – Orin C. Porter, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends at Bryan County Health and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, April 26, 2015.
He was born on September 12, 1935 in St. Augustine, Florida to Rev. Orin C. Porter, Sr. and Katie Perry Porter. He was the youngest of 13 brothers and sisters.
He and momma were married for 55 years before she passed away on June 21, 2009. She was the love of his life. He was a wonderful husband, a loving daddy, Papa, and great-granddaddy, uncle, cousin and a faithful friend. His family was his pride and joy. He owned Porter Land Clearing and Excavating Inc. He enjoyed being outdoors and in the mountains and listening to Gospel and Bluegrass music. He was a member of Derenne Avenue Church of God. He lived his life for the Lord. He always cared for others and was a giving and generous man. His greatest joy was serving the Lord and caring for others. He was loved deeply and will be missed so much.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, and his precious daughter-in-law, Sandra Sparks Porter.
He is survived by his three children, Wayne Porter, Sandy and Skipper Christain, and Orin Porter, III (Opie) and Kim Porter; his grandchildren, Wesley and DeAnn Porter, Chad Porter, Amie and Joshua Pharis, Katie and Tim Greer, Timothy Nixon and Zach Porter; and his great-grandchildren, Grace and Jordyn Porter, Walker Pharis and baby Wyatt due in September, Gavin Rutland and Deklan Greer, four step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren; his much loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Our family is thankful for all of the care Daddy received from Dr. Grant Lewis and his compassionate staff at the Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion, Candler-St. Joseph's fifth floor nurses, Hospice Savannah, and the Bryan County Health and Rehabilitation Center Staff.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Wesley Porter, Chad Porter, Timothy Nixon and Zach Porter; dear friends, Clayton Tillman and Neal Wittkamp.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Funeral: 11 a.m. on Thursday in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Hillcrest Abbey West cemetery.
