Mr. Oscar Coplin, Jr., 74, of Bloomingdale, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at Hospice Savannah.
Oscar was born in Lyons, Georgia and had lived here for a number of years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Coplin, Sr. and Mavis Mobley Coplin, a sister, Jackie Hemby, and two brothers, Larry Coplin and Ray Coplin. He served his country in the United States Army, having served in the Vietnam War. Oscar was a hard working man, doing landscape work, carpentry, and being a logger. He was a very strong man and also had a big heart who really enjoyed time with family and friends. Oscar had fun showing his family all sorts of sights around Savannah such as shrimp boats, wild life refuge, or Fort Pulaski. He was willing to help anyone out. He was a "Jack-of-all-trades" who enjoyed tinkering, as well as fishing. His grandson shared the following memories, like when Oscar would come and visit and would leave something behind, like a Florida Gators hat. Also, remembering Oscar helping a lady at the airport who had missed her flight, as well as a visit Dylan made in second grade and going with Oscar on a spooky chariot ride around town. Oscar will be missed.
Survivors include his life partner, Pamela Blair; two daughters and a son-in-law, Melissa Windfeldt (Jeff) and Michelle Stark; grandchildren, Dylan Anderson, Taylor Anderson, Nicole Coplin, and Coby Smith; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Johnny Coplin and Jerry Coplin; Craig Mazzara who was like a son to Oscar, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral to honor Oscar's life will follow at 3 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Meldrim, Georgia.
