West Chatham Chapel
Garden City-Mr. Paul Bazemore, 87, died on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at his
home. He fought the good fight. He finished his course. He kept his faith. He brought
us much joy. He has gone home. He was born on January 27, 1920 in Screven County,
Georgia. He moved to Garden City in 1945 where he lived the remainder of his life.
Paul retired from the Power Department of Union Camp Corporation in 1982 after 42
years of service. He was a member and past Deacon of the First Baptist Church of
Garden City. He was a Mason, a 50-year member of the Frank Baker Lodge in Garden
City. Paul was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. Paul and his
wife, Corrine, enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Prior to 2003, when he
became virtually homebound, he was known and loved for his "cornbread
ministry"-cornbread he made and distributed to anyone ill or whom he felt needed special
attention in some way. He loved to travel, attend gospel music concerts, and visit his
family and friends. He never met a stranger. His family, siblings, nieces, nephews, all
meant the world to him. He had a great capacity for love and shared that love daily. He
looked up, not down; looked forward, not back; looked out, not in; and always lent a
hand. He will be missed but his memory lives on through those he loved. He is
preceded in death by his wife, Corrine, of 49 years, his son, George F. Bazemore, Sr., and
grandsons, John Paul Bazemore and Richard Jordan, Jr., as well as his 7 brothers and
sisters, Meely Lee, Silas Bazemore (his twin), Pauline Jenkins, Thelma Connor, Winford
Bazemore, Hatridge Bazemore, and Evelyn Poythress. He is survived by two daughters
and son-in-laws, Jane and Richard Jordan, Garden City, Georgia and Paulette and Fred
Thomason, Placerville, California, a special niece who assisted in his day-to-day
emotional and physical care, Joyce Grimes of Savannah, his daughter-in-law, Zilla
Bazemore, Savannah, Georgia, four grandchildren, Frank Bazemore, a dedicated
caregiver for his grandfather, Steve Thomason, Lisa Downs, and Shirley Jordan, 14
great-grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces whom he loved like his own, family,
and many faithful friends. The visitation was on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
at the funeral home. The funeral for Mr. Bazemore will be on Friday, November 16,
2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Garden City with Elder Marvin Paulk
and Elder Lindy Webb, Sr. officiating. Mr. Bazemore will lie in state from 10-11 a.m. at
the Church. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Masonic Section.
Nephews will serve as active pallbearers, George Bazemore, Bud Bazemore, Terrell
Jenkins, Dennis Poythress, Raymond Lee, and Marty Seckinger. Honorary Pallbearers
