Paul Victor Repasy Sr., 91, passed away October 8, 2017 in Rincon, Georgia at the home of his son, William and daughter-in-law Lisa Waldhour Repasy. Paul was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, August 11, 1926 and was a 40 year resident of Meredith, NH.
Paul's father, Paul Peter Repasy, emigrated from Hungary to the United States as an eight-year-old. Paul's mother, Lydia Repasy(Pinter), was also of Hungarian descent. Paul's parents raised their only child primarily in New Jersey however the family also spent a substantial number of years seasonally in Plant City and St. Petersburg, Florida. Paul's early years were spent surrounded by a large extended family as his mother, Lydia, was one of the eldest of 13 children.
After high school Paul enlisted in the Army, training to become a fighter pilot in the Army Air Corps. However, shortly after his training began, WW2 ended so Paul returned to civilian life. Shortly thereafter he married and started his family.
In 1950 Paul founded what would become a successful commercial arts business in New Brunswick, NJ which he named Repasy Arts. His main products were corporate displays, truck lettering, billboards and silk screening jobs. In 1966 Paul moved his family as well as his business to Meredith, NH. This may have been viewed as a risky business decision to many in that the character and clientele of his business would change drastically. In New Hampshire truck lettering and silk screeningjobs still provided income for Paul, however, the mainstay of his new business became hand-carved signs.
Paul was well known by his customers and colleagues for his artistic design skills. Customers frequently relished the process of looking over Paul's shoulder while he worked on his easel, sketching design ideas onto paper. A collection of his work can be seen at https://youtu.be/oCLx72twFOc
Paul was active in a range of civic matters and became very interested in political philosophy. Coming to know and visit the well-known authors Ayn Rand and Nathaniel Branden were highlights of his philosophical pursuits. Paul was known for holding strong political views. These opinions stirred much controversy from time to time, especially during the yearly town meetings in Meredith, N.H.
During the last phase of his life he lived with his longtime companion, the late Elizabeth H. Nutt of Candia NH. They shared artistic abilities and interests. They also toured the United States together.
Paul is survived by his three children, Denise L. King (Natt), of Moultonborough NH, Paul V. Repasy, Jr, of Bloomfield Ct. and William G. Repasy (Lisa) of Rincon, Ga., as well as three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Paul's ever present sense of humor will be missed.
A private gathering will celebrate his life.
