Pauline J. Gordon was born on January 28, 1943 in Springfield, Georgia to Paul and Adrain James of Springfield, Georgia. Her parents preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was a son, Jeffrey Gordon; two sisters, Carrie E. Smiley and Elizabeth (Dolly) LaFlure and one brother, Paul Henry James.
Pauline, affectionately known to most as Mother Gordon, spent her life studying, living, and teaching the Word of God. She mothered nations and counseled multitudes.
As the owner and operator of Gordon's Personal Care Home , Inc., the oldest licensed Personal Care Facility in Savannah, Georgia, she provided a safe, comfortable, and spiritual environment for her clients. As a Physical Therapy Assistant at Memorial Hospital Pauline evangelized and ministered to everyone she encountered.
Pauline was a graduate of Alfred E. Beach High School class of 1962. She received her Physical Therapy Certification at Draughons Jr. College, now known as South College and University in Savannah Georgia. Pauline also attended Word Alive Bible College in Savannah, Georgia.
Pauline's Damascus road experience occurred while listening to Pastor Charles Stanly in her home. She was baptized by Pastor Matthew Southall Brown Sr. and served faithfully in ministry at St. John Baptist Church "The Mighty Fortress". While at St. John, Pauline served as a faithful member of New Life Bible Study, New Discoveries Study, Mission in Action, Jesus is the Answer Ministry ( a very viable Substance Abuse Ministry),the Sisterhood, Home Mission, Homebound Ministry, Evangelism Ministry, Sr. Saints Ministry, Prayer Ministry, and as an Associate Minister. Pauline was also a missionary. She sponsored missionaries enabling them to carry the Gospel message and she also traveled to the continent of Africa where she ministered to young ladies, men, and Pastors in Kenya. Pauline was the Mother of Life in the Word Kingdom Ministries serving and sowing love until the day the Lord called her home.
Pauline's most important ministry was her ministry of marriage. On February 15, 1963, Pauline married her soul mate, Robert (Bobby) Gordon Jr.
Pauline endured afflictions, did the work of an evangelist and made full proof of the ministry entrusted to her. She fought the good fight of faith and kept the faith. On October 25, 2018 in the comfort of her earthly home she transitioned to her heavenly home to receive her crown of righteousness.
She is survived by her husband, Robert (Bobby) Gordon Jr., of Savannah, Georgia; three children, Robert (Melia) Gordon III, Savannah, Georgia, Micaela (Arthur)Thomas of Spring, Texas and Brian G. Smiley of Savannah, Georgia; seven siblings; General James and Julius James of Brooklet, Georgia, J. C. James of Savannah, Georgia, Lucille Pryor, of Mt. Clemons Michigan, Mayola Lavender and Eunice Colbert of Melbourne, Florida, Adel J. Thompson, of Durem, North Carolina; one uncle, Carl I. Byrd of Savannah, Georgia and one Aunt, Naomi B. Marshall of Savannah, Georgia; sixteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, spiritual children and friends.
The visitation and viewing will be on Friday, November 2 nd from 6 until 8 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home.
The funeral will be on Saturday, November 3 rd at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with burial to follow at Magnolia Memorial Gardens.
