Pauline Exley Weitman
Springfield – Pauline Exley Weitman passed away on February 9, 2011. She was 94 years old.
Pauline, also affectionately known as Polly, was a devoted, member of her beloved Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She served in the church in many ways, especially as Sunday School teacher, Jr. choir director, and chair of the Food Committee. She sang with great pleasure for many years in the Chruch Choir. She was given the title, "Duchess", because she was careful about her appearance and a strong leader. Through the years she also took great pleasure in directing many weddings throughout Effingham County.
Her greatest passion was "fixing hair". She worked as a hairdresser until she was nearly 90 years old when she reluctantly retired due to diminishing eyesight. Nothing gave her greater pleasure than "doing" her friends hair and the camaraderie in her shop.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Meldrim and Hattie Helmly Exley, and husband, Ravenel Gignilliat Weitman.
Pauline is survived by her daughter, Nancy Carlson; son, Terrell Weitman and wife, Susan; grandchildren, Travis Carlson, Alan Carlson, Elyse Bryson and husband, Bill, Lauren Jonker and husband, Dylan; great-grandchildren, Clara Bryson and Ethan Jonker; her sister, Olivia Weitman; brother, Valdee Exley; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Interment will follow in Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 353, Springfield, GA 31329.
