Vilano Beach, FL-Mrs. Penny Turner Rowan, 58, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Flagler Hospital.
Penny was born in Savannah and had lived in Effingham County for a number of years before moving to Vilano Beach several years ago. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady Gnash Turner, Jr. & Cuba Nell Barnes Turner, and her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. A.O. Barnes (Big Daddy & Little Mother). She was a member of Meldrim Baptist Church, and had attended Central Baptist Church. She had been employed at SCAD College for several years. She was gifted with a beautiful voice and a talent at singing gospel music which she loved. She also loved the beach, fishing, but most of all, her family.
Survivors include her husband, George Rowan; son, Austin Inman; step-sons, Mark & Karl Rowan; her special companion, Ella Bella; sisters, June Rigdon Cooper, Joyce Weathers, and Linda "Lynn" Turner; brothers, Grayson Turner, and Clayton Turner, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles..
The visitation will be on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The funeral will be on Friday at 11 a.m. at Meldrim Baptist Church located at 229 Ohoopee Avenue, with Rev. Kenny Harrelson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
