"Miss Pollie"
Port Wentworth-Mrs. Pollie E. Dumas, 83, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2009,
surrounded by her loving family.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who
demonstrated her love and caring for others through her culinary, sewing, and crafting
talents. She was a faithful member of Port Wentworth United Methodist Church for over
60 years. She was a charter member of the Oscar Bell and Nona Grovenstein Sunday
School classes. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women, Silver
Threads, and Prayer Shawl Ministry. She retired as a Chatham County school bus driver
after 25 years of dedicated service.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Walter Wilbur Dumas; a daughter, Evelyn
Kessler (Jud); two sons, Kenny Dumas (Sue) and David Dumas (Pam); five
grandchildren; Gerald Kessler (Amanda), Kristi Taylor (Michael), Walter Dumas
(Lauren), Lauren Dumas and Lyndsay Dumas; four great-grandchildren, Gerald Tyler and
Ashtain Kessler and Blade and Aidan Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.
The visitation for Mrs. Dumas will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2009 at the Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home,
West Chatham Chapel in Pooler.
The funeral to celebrate the life of Mrs. Dumas will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at the Port Wentworth United Methodist Church. Rev. Tom Edwards and Rev. Grable Page will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Walter Dumas, Michael Taylor, Blade Taylor, Gerald Kessler, Burnette Nease, Jack Deloach, David Warren, Charles Exley, Bobby Wynn and Bobby Dumas. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Port Wentworth United Methodist Women. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery on Wheaton Street in Savannah.
